EBooks are "electronic books", meaning they are digital or "online" books. They could be digital versions of print books or original digital books not available in print.
There are MANY digital formats for eBooks in use today. Many use the standard, open EPub format, but others, like Amazon, have their own special eBook format which is only viewable on their Kindle devices or with a special Kindle app downloaded to other devices.
